Framing the Garage (Page 1)

09/01/2007 8:42AM Building materials are being delivered. We ordered the wall studs and sheathing from Lowes. We opened a commercial account with them so we will save a little money. The delivery charge is only $20.00 and they put the product where I want. It cost me half that amount to drive round trip to Lowes in the truck (18 miles x 2 = 36 miles @ 10mpg = 3.6 gallons * $2.60 per gallon = $9.36) so this make sense for the larger items.
09/01/2007 2:42PM This is one of my top helpers. Krista loves to help dad build.

09/01/2007 2:42PM Getting the first wall assembled. This is the south facing bathroom wall.

09/01/2007 5:46PM The first wall is standing. The girls cat "Peter" is already making himself at home. Krista is building her own objects. She even has her own hammer with her name on it.

09/03/2007 1:42PM Another wall has gone up. Ashley has also been  helping.

09/04/2007 6:00PM Lifting another wall into place. This worked pretty well since I needed to swing the wall around some water pipes sticking out of the slab.

09/05/2007 2:41PM Using the front end loader to raise the walls is much easier on my back. The walls are 2x6 at 16 inches on center. They get to weigh a pretty good amount. I ended up dropping a larger wall (back wall) while it was tilting up at about 4 feet. I was using two 3/8 inch eyebolts from Ace hardware rated at 250 lbs and they failed..

09/08/2007 10:32AM The girls created their own artistic creation.

09/08/2007 10:56AM More and more walls going up. Part of the front wall is being assembled.

09/08/2007 4:15PM Krista the building inspector. She wrote me up for a wall brace that was sticking through a window. She said, "This is not good, it needs to be fixed!"

09/08/2007 4:25PM Krista is helping me set the smallest "wall" we have. This is the support between the two garage doors.

09/15/2007 3:24PM All of the walls have been assembled including the internal bathroom wall. The next step is setting the floor trusses for the second floor.

09/15/2007 6:25PM I have lifted a couple of trusses into place.

09/15/2007 6:30PM It is looking more interesting now. Enough for the day.
